Hilary's Inspiration for Hephemme
Hephemme
combines the name, Hephaestus (The Greek God of technology, metals, blacksmith, and craftsmanship) and the french word "femme" meaning woman. I am inspired by the City and its geometric forms and details. I am also inspired by metal and how rough and gentle it can be from Medieval armor to rivets, grommets, and zippers. Magda Malina inspires me and relates to my admiration for the lavishness of
minimalism. Theatrical performances influences the direction I go whenever I create to generate attention. Oscar Schlemmer's Triadic Ballet of the simple shapes represented and performed reflects my passion for big chunky shapes with the beads I use to make my jewelry. I design along with the simplicity and shapelessness of the 1920's fashion silhouette that I work with for this line. The romanticism and softness of the American Ballet Theatre and 1930's glamour reflects the silk crepe fabrics I design with.
Hilary.
